The Jutland section of the book opens with ‘My Boy Jack’, a reflection on the dead. This undoubtedly carries some of Kipling’s feelings about the loss of his own son at the battle of Loos the previous year, framed in naval terms. This book, despite its author’s relationship to Jellicoe, does not eulogise the admiral but objectively lays out the whole Jutland story and offers a comprehensive and very readable narrative which the reader, newly coming to the Jutland battle and controversy, will find satisfaction that the author has addressed all aspects of the battle.

The Battle of Jutland, by John Brooks Summary: Overall I liked this book and would recommend it with a few caveats. This is not a good book for an introduction to Jutland but is an excellent book for someone who has read several books on Jutland and wants to dive deeper into the by: 2.

Staff also embraces H. Frost’s ’s BATTLE OF JUTLAND book. Frost was an American naval officer critical of the British to an extent that many British authors do not consult him. This is a mistake. Staff makes good use of Frost as a secondary source in his telling of the battle of Jutland from the German point of view.

BOOK REVIEW – The Battle of Jutland September 2, Book Reviews, Featured, History, News battle of jutland, book review, Geoffrey Bennett, naval history, world war I By Geoffrey Bennett (originally published B.T.

A classic study on the battle by the USN "Jutland", D Macintyre, Norton, - A good read, good primer on the battle, well done "The Battle of Jutland", G Bennett, Bastford, - Like Macintyre's book above, a good read, gives a good account of the battle, also well done.

This is a major new account of the Battle of Jutland, the key naval battle of the First World War in which the British Grand Fleet engaged the German High Seas Fleet off the coast of Denmark in Beginning with the building of the two fleets, John Brooks reveals the key technologies employed, from ammunition, gunnery and fire control, to signalling and torpedoes, as well as.

Just as an example, I noticed in Beesly's book on room 40 (he was in naval intelligence in ww2 tracking submarines) he starts the chapter on Jutland, 'The battle of jutland was fought on 31 may It was the swan song of the of the mighty dreadnought battleship.'.

To make it short, John Brooks, whose book on Dreadnought Gunnery and the Battle of Jutland: The Question of Fire-Control (London, ) had already broken new ground, does fulfil all expectations in spite of a view, which, due to the sources it is based on, is closer to the British than the German ships.

Nevertheless, wherever possible, he also. The British Grand Fleet which engaged the German High Seas Fleet at Jutland in was the most formidable in the history of the Royal Navy. Admiral Sir John Jellicoe’s warships included 28 battleships and nine battle cruisers, commanded by 13 admirals and 75 commodores and post : The History Press.

After Jutland analyses the naval war in Northern European waters following the critical, but inconclusive Battle of Jutland. A popular misconception is that Jutland marked the end of the operational career of the German High Sea Fleet and the beginning of a period of stagnation for both it and its opponent, the Grand Fleet.

The Battle of Jutland was the greatest naval engagement of the First World War, if not any war. Admiral Scheer had adopted a policy of launching attacks against the British coast.

What he did not know was that the British had broken his naval codes and that they knew of his plans. Consequently, when Scheer threw his entire fleet in a mission to attack the British.
